Osbert Blow, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S., serves as President & Chief Medical Officer for CHRISTUS Spohn Health System. Dr. Osbert Blow is responsible for leading a comprehensive health care system that includes: six hospital campuses, a Level II Trauma center, six family health centers, a nationally recognized cancer center, a provider network for self-insured employer groups, residency programs, and a host of community outreach programs.
CHRISTUS Spohn is consistently recognized as a regional health care leader, earning many recognitions and industry awards. CHRISTUS Spohn’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is recognized by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). CHRISTUS Spohn is part of an elite group of hospitals recognized by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for quality care of heart attacks, earning the Gold Stroke Plus Award and Mission Lifeline Award. The CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Center is the region's only cancer program nationally accredited by the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer. Birthing services at CHRISTUS Spohn hospitals are recognized as Texas 10 Step facilities. In his CMO role, he serves as liaison between the Medical Staff and leadership. This position is accountable for serving as a catalyst for the development of practice guidelines and care protocols that lead to the achievement of quality medical and service outcomes and cost efficiencies.
Dr. Blow joined the CHRISTUS Spohn family in 2006 and is Chair of the Department of Acute Care Surgery, Trauma and Surgical Critical Care and Medical Director for CHRISTUS Spohn's Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Services. Under his leadership CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Memorial achieved its Level II Trauma Center designation which it continues to hold today. Dr. Blow earned his medical and graduate degrees from Duke University. He received his general surgical training at University of Virginia and his trauma and surgical critical training at the R.A. Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He is Board Certified in General Surgery and in Surgical Critical Care.
Dr. Blow has served in many leadership roles including: Assistant Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics; Director, Pediatric Trauma and Emergency Surgery; Medical Director, Trauma and Critical Care Services. He serves as Associate Professor at College of Medicine Texas A & M University and Professor at University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He is a member of many national organizations and has authored several chapters in textbooks, numerous manuscripts, and has been an invited presenter at many national and international scientific congresses. In addition, he is a very active in our community and serves on the American Heart Association, Coastal Bend Blood Center, Nueces County Mental Health & Intellectual Disabilities, CHRISTUS Spohn Foundation and Texas State Aquarium Boards.
